Winemakers NotesThe fruit for our third SV Gisborne Malbec came from the Bell Family vineyard which also provides us with fruit for our SV Arneis, Marsanne and Albarino. Dubbed "The Exile", this references the very limited plantings of this grape in the region, as it it typically grown further south in the Hawkes Bay. The fruit was harvested in pristine condition and trucked overnight to our winery in Auckland. Following vinification, the wine was matured for around a year in barrel.

Tasting Notes
| Colour: | The colour in this wine is stunning. A black core leads to a bright red-purple rim. |
| Bouquet: | This wine shows the classic ‘wild berry’ character that typifies New Zealand Malbec. Black Doris plum and savoury chocolatey notes back this up. A touch of oak completes the picture. |
| Palate: | This full bodied red has an excellent balance between fruit, acid and tannin. The overall effect is to coat the palate from front to back and side to side. There is a strong core of sweet black fruit on the finish. |
Cellaring
Already approachable, but we expect this wine to cellar well for a number of years.
Food Matches
Rounded tannins and ripe berry flavours make this wine a great accompaniment to many meat dishes such as lamb, venison, beef and game. Many rich sauces go well with this wine, as will roast garlic and vegetables.

Brightly fruited and fragrant, the bouquet shows blackcurrant, dried herb, olive and floral aromas, followed by a nicely rounded palate offering juicy fruit flavours backed by fine chalky tannins. Structured and firm with ripe berry and spicy flavours. At its best: now to 2024. Sam Kim, Jan 2022
