TOBY & the REST Jazz Quartet – Jan 15th
The award winning quartet consists of Max Barrett (Drums) Toby Barrett (Saxophone) Tyler Diprose (Bass) and Lucas Kewell (Piano/keys) A new generation of jazz, these young musicians have proved themselves in National competitions and at their sell-out live performances in and around Auckland. They compose and arrange many of their own pieces. The communication between themselves and their connection with the audience make them stand out, filled with fun and skill, this is live music at its best.
The De Sotos – Jan 22nd & Apr 2nd
Fuelled by a powerful blend of rock-infused country blues, The DeSotos combine rich harmonies with reverberant guitar sounds, chunky bass runs and warm flourishes of Hammond organ. Americana Country-blues, done New Zealand style. Paul's new solo album 'Blue Horizon' was released in October of 2022 and is gaining strong critical acclaim internationally.
Songs off this album will be featured at their Coopers Creek show along with classic DeSotos material. Alex Ventling Quartet – Jan 29th
Originally from Auckland, Alex Ventling has been touring and studying the last years in Switzerland, Germany and Scandinavia, recently graduating the international ‘European Jazz Masters’. On rare occasions he finds his way back home, this time collaborating with Michael Howell on guitar, Mostyn Cole on double bass and Andy Keegan on drums, where the group will present an open approach to Alex’s originals and a selection of jazz standards. Listening and interaction is the focus in Alex’s bands, where the music leads the players intuitively, with no preconceptions. This will be a unique band sound.
The Turing Project – Feb 5th & March 12th
During the Great Hibernation of 20/21, The Turing Project emerged to share their take on jazz, soul, funk, and pop standards with New Zealand audiences. A timely return to Coopers Creek winery with no government crowd limitations this time. Bring it on 2023. Trudy Lile & Mojave - Feb 12th & April 9th Easter Sunday
New Zealand born jazz flutist and vocalist Trudy Lile is well known to audiences around New Zealand jazz festivals, and has been a regular feature to Coopers Creek audiences, performing with her band Mojave who are considered some of New Zealand’s finest professional jazz musicians. Auckland Big Band – March 5th
Auckland Big Band are a community group formed of players from all around the world with the aim of bringing more playing and listening opportunities to the people of Auckland. Founded in June 2017, we encourage musicians of all ages and backgrounds to come together to play in a friendly and relaxed environment, and have fun whilst doing so! We played our first ever gig in November 2017 and have since played in venues all across Auckland. Rehearsing regularly on Tuesday nights, we play from a range of genres and our repertoire is ever growing!
WBB - March 19th
WBB Big Band is a dynamic ensemble featuring a talented group of 18 musicians who deliver high-energy performances across a range of genres from rock, pop, jazz funk, modern and traditional jazz music. Fronted by the highly accomplished jazz-vocalist Jennifer Eirena, the band features a 4-piece rhythm section and 13-piece horn section. A diverse repertoire of music includes modern hits from artists Bruno Mars, Santana, Michael Jackson, Michael Buble and the Rolling Stones through to the classic tunes from Quincy Jones and Glen Miller - and much more. With a wide range of musical influences and a large stage presence, WBB Big Band is an entertaining and energetic live band performance.
JT+Agnostics – March 26th
JT+Agnostics are a quirky Waikato band who play self-penned songs and well curated covers, kiwiana blues style with crafty lyrics and catchy sax lines. Fronted by bass player and songwriter John Thomson who together with Maciek Hrybowicz on guitar are producing and recording a repertoire of original songs. At Coopers Creek they will be joined by regulars Bill Forrest on sax, Neil Reynolds on drums and guests Holly Shepheard on vocals and Malcolm Smith on keys.
