Cuisine Magazine's Top Specialty Red 2014

Last year the Top Specialty Red in Cuisine magazine's annual tasting went to SV "St John" Malbec 2011; this year the latest vintage - 2012 - has done it again!

That's a great endorsement for Malbec as a variety and especially for the Coopers Creek version, grown in the Bridge Pa Triangle district of the Hawkes Bay. Underlying the silty top soils are very deep layers of red alluvial gravels, dubbed the "Red Metals"; free draining terrain in one of the hottest parts of the region.

Malbec is often hidden in a Bordeaux style blend to add fruit and weight to Merlots and Cabernets. We've found that since 2010 our Malbec has been too good to hide - hence the release of the "St John".

That vintage won a Trophy and Gold
Medal at the Royal NZ Easter Show and the wine hasn't looked back since then!

Currently on cellar door release only.
