|The Auckland Botanic Gardens hosts a wonderful outdoor sculpture exhibition every second summer that attracts over 340,000 people. Coopers Creek is a key supporter of this arts to the people event.|
One of Auckland’s best kept secrets is the beautiful Botanic Gardens, just twenty minutes south of the city centre. Every second summer hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the region head to “Sculpture in the Gardens”, a four-month exhibition of large-scale outdoor sculpture set amid the garden collections at the Auckland Botanic Gardens. This year's exhibition runs from Sunday 9 October 2011 to Sunday 12 February 2012 and Coopers Creek Vineyard is a proud sponsor.
Twenty-one artworks by New Zealand sculptors have been selected to take part in this summer's “Sculpture in the Gardens” exhibition at the Auckland Botanic Gardens in Manurewa. The curatorial panel of Alexa Johnston, Rachel deLambert and Richard Mathieson made their selection from a list of high quality proposals. The selection includes Christine Hellyar, winner of the second “Sculpture in the Gardens” Supreme Award and Bing Dawe, winner of the People’s Choice Award.
Coopers Creek wines will be enjoyed by the art scene’s leading supporters at the opening celebrations this week and the winning artists will be gifted a set of Trophy wines in recognition of their awards. The public will also benefit with prizes of Gold Medal Coopers Creek wines going to entrants in the People’s Choice Awards.
Coopers Creek already has a strong affiliation with the arts that includes sponsorship of the bi-annual “Headlands” exhibition on Waiheke Island, a partnership with Webbs Fine Art Auctioneers and a year round display of outdoor sculpture in the winery gardens.
