|The 2014 harvest is now well underway for Coopers Creek with grapes and juice arriving from Kumeu, Gisborne, Hawkes Bay and Marlborough. The earliest parcel into the winery was a superb 3.5 tonnes of first-crop Chardonnay, from a new block on the Bell Vineyard. It's a very promising new clone that we have high hopes for.
Gisborne Albarino & Sauvignon Blanc and Hawkes Bay Pinot Noir & Viognier have all been harvested in superb condition, with the warm, dry conditions allowing optimum ripening. On our Home Vineyard we've hand picked some of the best Pinot Gris we've seen, right up there with the outstanding crop from 2013. That's Fabio enjoying time out of the cellar and in the vineyard!
We've taken in our first Fiano, also from the Bell Vineyard in Gisborne. It's a small batch from a trial crop and is a varietal that hails from Southern Italy. Soon to follow are Vermentino and Lagrein: it's fair to say that Simon's more than excited about how these new styles might perform!
